How Did It Start?
Hi, I'm David, founder of Dry Alternative. The idea began in 2019, when I decided to try Dry January while living in Paris. In a city famous for its wine and champagne, I quickly discovered that not drinking could make social occasions surprisingly complicated.
I often found myself explaining why I wasn't drinking or being encouraged to have “just one”. And when I did go out, the alternatives weren't particularly inspiring: soft drinks, sugary mocktails or, all too often, just water.
From an Idea to Dry Alternative
Through my work for an international organisation, I travelled extensively and experienced different food and drink cultures. Along the way, I noticed genuinely good alcohol-free options emerging — from craft beers to serious wine alternatives and sophisticated adult drinks.
Then Covid shifted my perspective on health, making it something to actively prioritise rather than take for granted. Combined with what I had discovered on my travels, this inspired me to launch Dry Alternative in 2022: a carefully curated selection of interesting, high-quality alcohol-free drinks for people who expect more from what's in their glass.
